Vapaa Sana Press Ltd., publishes the Kanadan Sanomat Newspaper - JuneVapaa Sana Press Ltd., has been celebrating over 80 years of Finnish journalism in Canada. On June 26, 2012, Vapaa Sana released their first issue of the Kanadan Sanomat. The newspaper is writting 100% in Finnish (including advertisements). This is a first, as the previous paper named Vapaa Sana, included an English section. We wish Kanadan Sanomat much success and look forward to placing advertisements with them in the future. Kanadan Sanomat has replaced the weekly issue of Vapaa Sana.

Agricola Children's Summer Camp - May 2012 Looking for a great opportunity for your child to enjoy the outdoors and make new friends with special memories? Agricola's summer camp is the place for just that. Camp will run from Saturday July 21st to Friday July 27th. It takes place at the Bible Camp site in Marmora, Ontario - but don't worry we even arrange a bus to bring your child there. The cost is $150 for one child and only $125 for the second child from the same family. Campers should be 8-14 years old and ready to sleep in a tent! Saalem Church Kids Summer Camp - May 2012Are you looking for something for your child to do from August 19th - 25th? Let them experience summer camp in Muskoka at the beautiful Camp Kwasind. Online registration starts May 14th at bayviewfamilychurch.com. Earlybird registrations $385 when paid before July 19th. Regular payment of $410 if paid after July 19th. A $105 non-refundable deposit is required. An iPad draw is open to returning campers who bring a friend and to "first time campers". Osuuspankki is Seeking Nominees for it's Board of Directors - Mar 2012It is that time of year again, that Osuuspankki will be holding it's Annual Meeting (on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012). There are 2 positions which are up for renewal and elections will be held at the meeting which will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Agricola Church. Nominations may be forwarded by email or may be dropped off at the branch, addressed to the Nominations Committee. The nominations are due by March 20th, 2012.

New Scholarship At Osuuspankki
Although this is the Finnish Community News section of our website, we feel
it is important to announce in every place possible, about the wonderful gift
which Eero Blomberg has given the Finnish community.
Eero Blomberg was born in Terijoki Finland on February 26th, 1926. He
moved to Canada in 1953.
Eero valued a strong education and bequeathed much of his estate to the
Finnish Credit Union for a scholarship fund to be set up for the younger Finnish-
Canadian generations. He set out specific stipulations in his will as to how the
"Eero's Memorial Fund" was to operate. This year, the Finnish Credit Union is
proud to present four (4) bursaries in the amounts of $5,000 each. The appli-
cation which can be found online and is also available at our branch, is to be
submitted by September 30th, 2011. The application stipulates all aspects of
the "Eero's Memorial Fund". Read here before the end of the year to see who
received the scholarships.

Vapaa Sana Announces New Editor
Vapaa Sana announced in it's paper on July 19th, 2011 that it has appointed Mr. Johnathan Riikonen as it's new editor. Mr. Riikonen arrives in Toronto on August 3rd. Osuuspankki wishes current Editor, Mr. Kimmo Veikkanen, success in his future endeavours. .

Finnish Credit Union Board Room Available The Finnish Credit Union's board room is available for Finnish organizations to use for meetings. There is no cost for this service and the board room is available while the credit union itself is not using it. This is just another way of the credit union giving back to our Finnish community.
